My Professional Development Plan

I have always believed that to be a successful professional one has to be a lifelong learner. I have myself always been a lifelong learner in my profession. I upgraded my educational credentials from Masters to PhD while I was a teacher. As I mainly taught research and statistics, I attended a number of workshops on these subjects to be aware of the latest advances in my area. I was also pretty regular with professional development courses. I plan to do the same in future.

When we become complacent about our position and career, it starts backfiring on us and even worse our students. Not being able to deliver the best to them is a direct failure of a teacher.

Immigration to Canada brought my career formally to a halt. But the chance to get into a course on being an instructor proved to be my golden card towards a genuine upgradation of me as a teacher. I have always been an authoritative teacher and this course changed my perspectives completely about the student teacher relationship. I understood the importance of liberty and democracy in teaching. This is an important career development for me as I plan to restart my teaching career in a new country.

Five years from now, I see myself on a regular position as an instructor in some university or college teaching business management, statistics and research. PIDP gave me a renewed energy and a sense of being a teacher in Canada. My next step would be getting two professional certifications which would validate my education and subject matter expertise. I have already initiated the process of attaining those certifications. Apart from these I plan to start tutoring as that will give me a chance to go through the subject matter, content and material as used in the Canadian Education system. PIDP trained me a lot about the use of different media in teaching. I plan to create a stream of helpful and easy youtube videos for my subject. I will also be attending a number of personal development conferences and workshops from time to time to understand my new country and its educational system better. I have already taken membership of the institute of performance and learning for getting access to quality professional development workshops and seminars.
